The past few months we have not had a quorum and therefore have not held a meeting.
4) Chair’s Report
There were no Chair reports available
5) Old Business/ Updates
6) New Business
There was a question of Merit Pay being distributed evenly to employees. There was a rumor that some managers may have given performance reviews based on a set salary structure, where managers were instructed not to give any “excellent” ratings. It is uncertain if it was in writing, but it was verbally explained. This would be a breach of agreement to be employed. Ed agreed to reach out to Sherry Olson and ask for further clarification.
7) Comments
a) There is a name misspelled on the Faculty Senate website. Glenn said he would reach out to Bentley to correct he error.
b) Cheryl asked about the Faculty Senate Purpose. Several members gave a response and reiteration of what we accomplish:
(1) It is to have representation and visibility through our Faculty Chair. The Chair has access to our Chancellor, that way people have access and a voice through our Chair and representative as a division and presence at the Board of Regents meeting.
(2) We may take back relevant information to our team(s) or colleagues. While it is true that colleges and universities have a lot of topics that are more relevant to them, it is important to disseminate information that can affect an employee, even if we are a smaller scale, topics such as: workload, safety, compensation, and benefits.
(3) We also address issues that need reporting. We are informed about the meetings and report for public comment and address important issues or just to listen in on them.
c) There was an effort to coordinate with NSHE institutions on Community Outreach. Later, there may be an opportunity to volunteer, participate or otherwise support existing activities. This may be more of a possibility when COVID slows down.
(1) It was suggested that we extend a standing “invite” to the new Chancellor.
8) Next Meeting
Tuesday, August 16 at 2:00 PM
9) Adjournment
Ed moved to adjourn the meeting at 2:46 pm
