4) Comments
- Faculty Senate Meeting with the Chancellor 3/20/24
- Evaluate models for higher education funding used in other states, to support institutions similar to NSHE institutions and compare those models to the current funding model, used in Nevada, including allocation methodology and institutional costs for the delivery of instruction.
- Determine whether other funding allocation methods would be appropriate for NSHE, whereby different missions of research universities, state universities, and community colleges are appropriately considered. iii)Review and make recommendations regarding the method(s) used by other states in the use and reporting of revenue and expenses outside of a state-supported operating budget.
Recommendations Include iv) Mission overview and ways to improve the Funding Formulas
- Presentations from 3 presidents and more information is needed.
- Considerations for part-time students and what formulas are used around the country?
- Nevada Faculty Alliance (NFA) wants to meet with the Board of Regents, because they cannot it was suggested that they meet with Faculty Senate. They do not have 3 online Regents and the Shared Governance is Faculty Senate not NFA. The Chancellor has not seen any of the proposals from the NFA.
- NSHE received $2.6M for Public Safety for the South, after UNLV shooting.
5) Old Business
- The position of Chair for SA/SCS Faculty Senate continues to be open. We will be voting in July for a new Faculty Senate Chair.
6) New Business
- It was asked that we reschedule the next meeting to June. No one disagreed. (NOTE: Our Chair cannot meet for May so we will revert and continue to meet in May)
- It was suggested that while we ask the Chancellor back to another meeting, in the meantime we can ask her to email her answers back to the questions that were sent to her for this meeting.
- Agenda item for next meeting – Elections for upcoming vacant seats for Faculty Senate members. Ed will send out email.
